Impossible Homecoming
“My throat is a river and my mouth is the map, every time I speak I have a story to tell. ”
Howl Yuan 原承伯 takes audiences on a semi-autobiographical journey spanning 80 years of history, tracing his own migrant journey rooted in family, war, displacement and a sense of belonging. Impossible Homecoming is part performance, part exhibition – exploring the history of Taiwan and how seismic political shifts can reshape lives and identities.
Where is home, when everything has been uprooted?
Originally co-produced with MAYK for Confluence, a commission by Ginkgo Projects for Redcliffe Quarter with the support of Grainger plc. The original commission began with a gentle journey through Castle Park, Bristol and ended at Sparks, a repurposed shopping centre.
Howl guides audience through a story of war and conflict, romantic meet cutes, and how we define home and family. This is a work in development and initially presented as a work-in-progress performance encounter.
