CONCUSSION

A Western Australian Premiere.

Somewhere in a city, a brutally beaten Caesar wakes up with no memory of his past. He lives in a house that might be his with a son he barely remembers, cared for by a doctor who may be his girlfriend. The world around him staggers and falters as he tries to piece his life together, one fragment at a time.

Violently funny and sexually charged, Concussion is a dark comedy of shattered identity that weaves six lives through a city in meltdown.

Written by award-winning Australian playwright, Ross Mueller. Concussion touches on everything from the depths of identity to selfies and teen porn. Produced by Ellandar Productions in association with The Blue Room Theatre the Western Australian premiere of Concussion delivers fun and filthy tales of urban life directed by Sarah Guillot.

Concussion was first produced by Sydney Theatre Company and Griffin Theatre Company at Wharf 2 Theatre, Sydney, in 2009.

Ross Mueller won the New York New Dramatists’ Playwright Exchange Award in 2008 for Concussion.

Reviews

“Concussion has moments of surreal lightness amidst the sometimes harrowing gloom of the lives of six sad people, cuts close to the hidden truths of many aspects of modern life and is another compelling dramatic piece from Ellandar Productions.” – Australian Stage

“…the result is often gobsmackingly obscene and morally bankrupt, work through all that and there’s quite a bit of wicked fun to be had and something to be said about the human condition in a world hotwired to the net and drowning in pornography.” – The West Australian

“Director Sarah McKellar has done an amazing job. Despite the complexity of the script […] she keeps the pace rattling along.” – WA Theatre Reviews

“It’s deliciously clever, subversive and funny.” – Perth Theatre Reviews
